Committees of Council

The Municipality of South Bruce has many advisory boards and committees that help shape our community for the future. Our Committees of Council are made up of volunteer citizens who become involved to provide advice and recommendations to Council on a variety of issues.

How to get involved

We encourage you to get involved and take part in contributing to our community’s growth and success. Contact our Clerks Department if you are interested in joining a committee or advisory board.

The purpose of the South Bruce Tourism Committee is to develop and promote tourism within the villages and rural settings of the Municipality for the enjoyment and benefit of residents and visitors.

Meeting Times

Meetings are held from 7:00pm - 8:30pm, date varies based on members availability.

This Committee meets in person.

We recognize the importance that trees hold in the community. The Tree Committee strives towards maintaining a healthy tree population in urban and rural areas of the Municipality.

Goals of the Committee

The goals of the Committee are to:

  • Nurture our trees so they provide positive natural benefits to our community
  • Improve the visual appearance of our local parks, cemeteries, roadsides, and boulevards
  • Make our community an enjoyable place for existing and future generations

Meeting Times

This committee meets three times per year, typically January, June (tour) and September (tour).

This Committee meets in person.

The Teeswater-Culross Cemetery Board are responsible for the oversight and administration of the Culross and Teeswater Cemetery, on behalf of the Municipality of South Bruce.

Meeting Times

Meetings dates and times are determined by the Chair. An annual general meeting is normally held at the end of January. 

This Committee meets in person.

The purpose of the Teeswater Medical Centre Development Steering Committee is to retain a medical centre facility and services in Teeswater. They provide oversight and direction with respect to all aspects of the planning, design and construction of the Teeswater Medical Centre Development Project, and make recommendations to South Bruce Council and the Clerk/CAO regarding all aspects of the Teeswater Medical Centre Development Project.

Meeting times

Meetings are generally held the first Monday of the month.

This Committee meets virtually via Zoom video conferencing.

The Property Standards Committee hears appeals against orders issued by the Property Standards Officer under the Property Standards By-Law. The Committee is made up of three member of the public appointed by Council.

According to Section 15.3(3.1) of the Building Code Act, the Property Standards Committee has the power to:

  • Confirm, modify or rescind the order to demolish or repair;
  • Extend the time for complying with the order if, in the committee's opinion, the general intent and purpose of the by-law and the official plan or policy statements are maintained.
