The Municipality of South Bruce is committed to serving our land and property. We take part in tree planting initiatives which helps us improve our air quality and promote healthy growth for our properties. We have adopted a Tree Maintenance Policy By-Law 2022-17 and established a Municipal Tree Committee By-Law 2022-16 (Terms of Reference) which acts as an advisory body implementing this policy.
If you have a tree, within the Municipal Right-of-Way, that you feel is a safety hazard, please complete the Request form and submit it to the Public Works Department for review and confirmation that it is on Municipal property. The request will then be brought to the Municipal Tree Committee for their review and recommendation.
We participate in the Maple Leaves Forever rebate program which is a charitable foundation that advocates and supports the planting of Native Canadian Maple trees in southern Ontario. They also provide information and guidance regarding the planting and ongoing care of these trees.
The Municipality does their best to control weeds along the Municipal Right-of Ways; however, if you see an area of noxious weeds on Municipal property, please report the area.
If you have noxious weeds on your property, please visit the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for helpful information on identifying and controlling various types of weeds. Within South Bruce, there are a variety of invasive species that you should be aware of and health and safety should be considered when dealing with weeds, such as Giant Hogweed.
