Committees of Council

The Municipality of South Bruce has many advisory boards and committees that help shape our community for the future. Our Committees of Council are made up of volunteer citizens who become involved to provide advice and recommendations to Council on a variety of issues.

Community Liaison Committee

The Community Liaison Committee was formed to engage, educate and listen to the community of South Bruce regarding the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s site selection process, to gather technical and social research and information related to the proposal and Adaptive Phased Management.

Formosa Homecoming - 2022

Mission Statement:

"To provide for a Community Homecoming Celebration that celebrates the

community of Formosa and raises funds for community betterment projects".

Goal: To provide a safe and enjoyable celebration that will appeal to all ages,

focusing on the participation of residents and former residents of the

Community of Formosa.

Mildmay Carrick Homecoming - 2023

Mission Statement:

“To provide for a Community Homecoming Celebration that celebrates the communities of Mildmay and Carrick and raises funds for community betterment projects”.

Goal: To provide a safe and enjoyable celebration that will appeal to all ages, focusing on the participation of residents and former residents of the Community of Mildmay/Carrick.

Recreation Advisory Committee

The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee is to:

Provide advice and recommendations to Council on recreation-related issues and policies
Promote and provide a variety of opportunities for physical activity to all residents
Continuously improve all facilities and parks within the Municipality to meet the needs of the community

Meeting times

Meetings are generally held on the second Monday of each month.

This Committee meets in person.

Goals of the Committee

The goals of the Committee are to:

Ensure all Parks and Recreation services provided by the Municipality are safe, accessible, and affordable
Develop, maintain, enhance, and promote safe, accessible parks and open spaces
Establish and sustain a variety of recreational programs and community facilities
Develop, provide, and promote a variety of creative programs for all age and user groups
Promote volunteerism through supporting of projects, programs and services related to Parks, Recreation and Facilities
Actively promote the benefits of leisure, recreation, parks, and facilities to the community

Proactively plan future programs, open space, trails, and recreation infrastructure

South Bruce Tourism Committee

The purpose of the South Bruce Tourism Committee is to develop and promote tourism within the villages and rural settings of the Municipality for the enjoyment and benefit of residents and visitors.

Meeting times

Meetings are held from 7:00pm - 8:30pm, date varies based on members availability.

Tree Committee

We recognize the importance that trees hold in the community. The Tree Committee strives towards maintaining a healthy tree population in urban and rural areas of the Municipality.

Goals of the Committee

The goals of the Committee are to:

Nurture our trees so they provide positive natural benefits to our community
Improve the visual appearance of our local parks, cemeteries, roadsides, and boulevards
Make our community an enjoyable place for existing and future generations

Meeting times

This committee meets three times per year, typically January, June (tour) and September (tour).

Teeswater Culross Cemetery Board

The Teeswater-Culross Cemetery Board are responsible for the oversight and administration of the Culross and Teeswater Cemetery, on behalf of the Municipality of South Bruce.

Meeting times

Meetings dates and times are determined by the Chair. An annual general meeting is normally held at the end of January.

This Committee meets in person.

Teeswater Medical Centre Development Steering Committee

The purpose of the Teeswater Medical Centre Development Steering Committee is to retain a medical centre facility and services in Teeswater. They provide oversight and direction with respect to all aspects of the planning, design and construction of the Teeswater Medical Centre Development Project, and make recommendations to South Bruce Council and the Clerk/CAO regarding all aspects of the Teeswater Medical Centre Development Project.

Meeting times

Meetings are generally held the first Monday of the month.

This Committee meets virtually via Zoom video conferencing.

Property Standards Committee

The Property Standards Committee hears appeals against orders issued by the Property Standards Officer under the Property Standards By-Law. The Committee is made up of three member of the public appointed by Council.

According to Section 15.3(3.1) of the Building Code Act, the Property Standards Committee has the power to:

Confirm, modify or rescind the order to demolish or repair;
Extend the time for complying with the order if, in the committee's opinion, the general intent and purpose of the by-law and the official plan or policy statements are maintained.

Meeting times

This Committee meets on an as needed basis.
