Notice: Building Permit Fee Review 2025

The Building Department is reviewing their current permit fees to have them increased for the 2025 building season. The Building Code Act allows for fee increases and states the following: The total amount of the fees authorized under clause (1) (c) must not exceed the anticipated reasonable costs of the principal authority to administer and enforce this Act in its area of jurisdiction. 2002, c. 9, s. 11 (2). [(BCA 7(2)].  

Staff have reviewed eight local Building Department fee schedules including West Grey, Owen Sound, Morris-Turnberry, Kincardine, Huron-Kinloss, Brockton, Howick, and Arran Elderslie to compare them to the current building costs in South Bruce.

The Building Code Act requires that any fee changes be presented in a public meeting which was done at the Council Meeting on March 11, 2025, and that public comments and questions are taken into consideration for at least 21 days before a decision is made.  This report will be brought back to Council at a later meeting for a decision.
