SOUTH BRUCE, ON – At its meeting on December 12, 2023, South Bruce Council passed a motion approving an amendment to the Multi-Year Funding Agreement (MYFA) with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO).
The MYFA was initially approved by Council in June 2020 in By-Law #2020-53. Since then, the agreement has been updated multiple times. This is the sixth amendment to the MYFA which will incorporate the work plan and budget for 2024.
The 2024 net budget is $1,930,017 plus a carry over of $415,000 from 2023, totalling a 2024 budget of $2,345,017. Additionally, the Early Investment in Education and Skills funding is $30,000 and the Community Well Being funding is $300,000 for 2024.
Resource funding provided by the NWMO through the MYFA covers the costs the Municipality incurs to independently assess the benefits and potential impacts of siting a deep geological repository (DGR) in South Bruce.
Potential costs to the Municipality that are covered by the MYFA may include administration, staffing, studies, peer reviews, learning opportunities organized by the South Bruce Nuclear Exploration Team and investments for community wellbeing, education, and skills.
More information about the amended MYFA can be found on the Municipal website.
