SOUTH BRUCE, ON – At its meeting on July 25, 2023, South Bruce Council passed a motion approving an amendment to the Multi-Year Funding Agreement (MYFA) with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO). This is the fifth amendment to the MYFA since initial approval by Council in June 2020 in By-Law #2020-53.
The MYFA was amended to include two new items. The first being the re-allocation of wage dollars to include a Senior Financial Planning Analyst and the second to include a carry forward of unspent funds from 2022 in the amount of $167,704. This brings the 2023 amended budget to $2,797,910.
Resource funding provided by the NWMO through the MYFA covers the costs the Municipality incurs to independently assess the benefits and potential impacts of siting a deep geological repository (DGR) in South Bruce.
Potential costs to the Municipality that are covered by the MYFA may include administration, staffing, studies, peer reviews, learning opportunities organized by the South Bruce Nuclear Exploration Team and investments for community wellbeing, education, and skills.
More information about the amended MYFA can be found on the Municipal website.
