Recent graduate Dr. Emily Montag, who was born and raised in South Bruce, has returned to the area to start a business that offers healthcare services to the community.
Dr. Emily Montag Family Chiropractic Care, located in the heart of Teeswater at 4A Clinton St. North, has offered healthcare services in South Bruce since November 2022.
Dr. Montag ventured to pursue schooling in Oshawa and Toronto. She explains she was able to finish her competitive eight-year program in seven years to become a licenced chiropractor. She added that she continued to pursue her passion by founding her clinic in November 2022, in her home community.

Dr. Montag said she decided to return to South Bruce in part because of preexisting relationships but also because of the community’s need for medical services and professionals.
Dr. Jenny Henderson joined the clinic in January 2024 and agreed that the community needs additional and varied medical services. Dr. Henderson is a naturopathic doctor with over ten years experience in multi-disciplinary clinics, adding diversity to available medical services for community members. Both doctors attest to the value of having a range of services that cover a wide array of needs.
“In healthcare it’s not just one (treatment) fits all, there are many parts that we have to work at. That’s why right when I started the clinic always wanted to add other healthcare professionals and grow into a multi-disciplinary clinic,” said Dr. Montag. “That takes time, and it takes finding those practitioners that work and jive really well together.”
Dr. Henderson was drawn to small-town lifestyle after living in Aurora. She shared that she is excited to be a valuable resource for the community as another avenue for local healthcare.
“My approach is very complementary to conventional medicine,” said Dr. Henderson. “Come in and we’ll talk about how to eat, what foods you might need to avoid, we’ll talk about how to heal any inflammation, we’ll talk about how stress management will tie into that.”
Dr. Montag and Dr. Henderson acknowledge there has been tremendous growth in the medical industry in South Bruce. They said the community needs more local medical professionals to offer specialized services and reduce the number of patients without a family doctor.
They pointed to the problem with the number of patients who do not have a primary care doctor available locally or must travel distances as far as Toronto to receive care. Dr. Montag and Dr. Henderson described providing local medical resources, services, and community education, as goals they passionately strive for.
“[Some] of the remarks I get about the medical services being local is ‘hey it’s wintertime and I can’t make it to my appointment’, not having to drive an hour to get to an appointment, or ‘when I hurt, I can actually get there and not have to take a full day off work,’” said Dr. Montag.
Dr. Montag explained she was able to start offering her services to the community by connecting with local business owners Nancy Dalgard and Dave Billings.
Billings and Dalgard owns the building that Dr. Emily Montag’s Family Chiropractic Care operates out of. During renovations to revitalize the building to house the business, Billings and Dalgard were able to incorporate historical elements to the modern revitalization. Some examples include using wood shelving from Letteau’s Shoe Store, a previous tenant, and using antique newspapers found in the building as decoration. The couple also worked with Dr. Montag to ensure that the building was AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) compliant.
