SOUTH BRUCE, ON – At the Special Meeting of the Municipality of South Bruce Council on June 1st, South Bruce Council appointed Justin McKague to fill the vacant position on the Community Liaison Committee (CLC).
Following an open application period last month, Council reviewed the candidacies of several South Bruce ratepayers who had put their names forward, and held individual interviews.
Applicants had strong resumes and demonstrated a desire to serve their community, as well as interest in fulfilling the mandate of the CLC to engage, educate and listen to the South Bruce community in regards to the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) Project to safely store Canada’s used nuclear fuel.
“Council is pleased to appoint Justin McKague to fill the vacant seat on the Community Liaison Committee. He is a proud member of the community and demonstrates a strong interest in working with his neighbours in learning about the opportunities and challenges that hosting the NWMO Project could have on South Bruce,” said Mayor Robert Buckle, who is also an ex-officio member on the CLC.
“We are looking forward to having Justin serve alongside us on the CLC,” said Chair Jim Gowland. “While we regret that Brian Knox had to step down, I am confident that Justin will bring thoughtful input to the table as we continue to explore the Project.”
McKague is a lifelong resident of Teeswater, and is actively involved with the Municipality’s new monthly event for young community members, #NextGenNetwork.
He graduated from the Electrical Engineering Technology program at Conestoga College in 2020, and is currently bridging into their Power Systems Engineering program. As well, McKague is employed by Propack Processing and Packaging Systems Inc as a Controls Technologist.
McKague will officially join the CLC as a member at their next meeting, which will take place on Thursday, July 8th at 7:00 PM via Zoom.
