SOUTH BRUCE, ON – Renovations to the washrooms at the historic Teeswater Town Hall have recently been completed, with support from Community Well-Being funding making the project a possibility. 50% of the overall cost of the project was supported by Ontario Trillium Foundation funding, plus a generous contribution from the Teeswater-Culross Old Boys and Girls Reunion fund.
“The Town Hall is a landmark in our community and a gathering place for many events and celebrations, so designating Community Well-Being funds to make the project happen was important to our Council,” said Mayor Robert Buckle.
“We are thrilled to see the renovations have come to completion, improving this great facility for years to come,” said Shawnette Crouse, Recreation and Facilities Manager for the Municipality of South Bruce. “I look forward to the community getting to see the renovations for themselves and making good use of the Hall again once we can safely reopen and gather again.”
“The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is pleased to partner and build relationships with the Municipality and the community,” said Tareq Al-Zabet, NWMO Site Director-South Bruce. “The Town Hall is an anchor in the community, a place to come together and share stories. We are delighted to see the Community Well-Being funds leveraged to ensure this property continues to benefit the community for many years to come.”
Council allocated $55,000 from Community Well-Being funding last year to support the overall cost of renovating the accessible washrooms at the Hall, which further modernize this iconic building that serves as a cultural centre and meeting place for the residents of Teeswater, Culross and beyond for generations.
Every year the NWMO contributes to Community Well-Being funding, which is administered by Council and intended to support the community’s continued efforts to build sustainability and well-being. The fund is also there to support capacity-building to participate in discussions to explore partnership with the NWMO, and to host the project in the future through the development of transferrable skills.
When public health measures permit, the Teeswater Town Hall will once again become available to use as a community hub for a range of events – such as recitals, live performances, meetings, ceremonies and more. Booking the Hall can be done by contacting the Municipal Office, or through the form on the Municipal Website.
