SOUTH BRUCE, ON – South Bruce Council will consider a Hosting Agreement between the Municipality of South Bruce and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) at a special meeting on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
This Hosting Agreement maps out what happens if South Bruce decides it is a willing host and selected for the NWMO Project to safely store Canada’s used nuclear fuel. It also sets out how South Bruce would exit the process if it is not a willing host or it is not selected by the NWMO.
The agreement is shaped by 36 Guiding Principles that were developed in 2020, based on community input.
Understanding the terms of the agreement will be a piece of information that helps residents consider whether they are willing to be the host community. The Municipality will hold a referendum to determine willingness on October 28, 2024.
The Municipality encourages residents to learn more by visiting the municipal website to view the Council agenda which contains the Hosting Agreement and supporting documents including a short backgrounder.
