For Immediate Release
July 6, 2023
SOUTH BRUCE, ON – In early July, households in South Bruce will receive a postcard inviting them to complete a community survey about the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) Project. Consulting firm Deloitte is conducting the survey which will help the Municipality learn how well community members understand the Project, what additional information they need and what topics they are most interested in learning about.
The Municipality of South Bruce is one of two final sites that the NWMO is considering to securely store Canada’s used nuclear fuel in a deep geological repository (DGR). The Municipality plans to hold a referendum in 2024 to measure community willingness to host the Project.
“It is important to hear back from the community about information they want to learn more about and how to best give that information to them. I encourage residents to take the time to complete the survey.” said Mayor Mark Goetz.
Deloitte will conduct the survey, collect data, and summarize survey findings, on the behalf of the Municipality, to ensure that survey results remain anonymous. The survey period will run until August 11. Summary results will be published on the South Bruce website and Deloitte will present survey findings at a future meeting of the Community Liaison Committee.
The postcard will explain how to complete the survey online using a unique PIN code. Community members can also complete the survey by telephone with a Deloitte representative. Questions about the community survey can be directed to Steve Travale, Acting Community Engagement Manager at stravale@southbruce.ca.
The Municipality encourages each household to participate in the community survey and provide valuable feedback.
