Anyone can vote in a municipal election who, on the day of the election, is:

• 18 years of age or older
• a Canadian citizen; and
• either a resident of the municipality or a property owner or tenant or the spouse or same sex partner of an owner or tenant in the municipality during a specified time just before the election.

Your name must be on the Voters’ List in order for you to cast a ballot and it is your responsibilty to ensure your name appears on the list. You may call or attend the municipal office during regular business hours or attend a Voter Assistance Center during it's hours of operation to confirm you are on the Voter's List.

How can you be added to the Voter's List?

If you are not on the Voters’ List you must attend in person with acceptable identification and complete an EL15 form at the Municipal office or a Voter Assistance Center during hours of operation or at the following locations:

• Wednesday, October 5, 2022 – 5:00pm – 6:30pm Formosa Hall 
• Saturday, October 8, 2022 – 8:30am – 11:00am  South Bruce Municipal Office
• Thursday, October 13, 2022 – 5:30pm – 7:00pm Teeswater Culross Community Center 
• Friday, October 14, 2022 - 5:30pm - 7:00pm  Mildmay Carrick Recreation Complex

EL15 form - Application to Amend Voters' List

You may apply to be added to the voter's list or change your information until the close of voting on voting day in a regular election or by-election. You may have your name added to the Voters’ List at the Municipal Office or either Voter Assistance Centers. However, we encourage you to do so prior to the voting day.

Your name must be on the Voters’ List in order for you to cast a ballot. You may call (519-392-6623) or attend the municipal office (21 Gordon Street E. Teewater) during regular business hours (Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:30pm) or attend a Voter Assistance Center during it's hours of operation to confirm you are on the Voter's List. 

If you are on the voter's list, you will receive a voter information letter in the mail.  This letter will provide you with instructions on how to vote.  You will require the information in the letter to vote by telephone or by internet. 

When you receive your letter, keep it safe, secure and private.

Voter Assistance Centres will also be set up at the Municipal Office in Teeswater and the Fire Station in Mildmay.

• Voting Period Begins - October 17, 2022
• Advanced Voting will open Monday October 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
• Voting will remain open until Election Day, October 24, 2022 at 8:00 p.m.

Which Center can you attend?

Electors are welcome to attend either Voter Assistance Center.

What do you need to bring?

Voters attending the Voter Assistance Centers should bring their Voter Information Letter, which you will receive in the mail, and proper identification. 

 Acceptable List of Identification

O. Reg. 304/13: Voter Identification lists the acceptable forms of voter identification under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

You must present one of the following documents showing your name and address:

• An Ontario driver’s licence.
• An Ontario Health Card (photo card).
• An Ontario Photo Card.
• An Ontario motor vehicle permit (vehicle portion).
• A cancelled personalized cheque.
• A mortgage statement, lease or rental agreement relating to property in Ontario.
• An insurance policy or insurance statement.
• A loan agreement or other financial agreement with a financial institution.
• A document issued or certified by a court in Ontario.
• Any other document from the government of Canada, Ontario or a municipality in Ontario or from an agency of such a government.
• Any document from a Band Council in Ontario established under the Indian Act (Canada).
• An income tax assessment notice.
• A Child Tax Benefit Statement.
• A Statement of Employment Insurance Benefits Paid T4E.
• A Statement of Old Age Security T4A (OAS).
• A Statement of Canada Pension Plan Benefits T4A (P).
• A Canada Pension Plan Statement of Contributions.
• A Statement of Direct Deposit for Ontario Works.
• A Statement of Direct Deposit for Ontario Disability Support Program.
• A Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Statement of Benefits T5007.
• A property tax assessment.
• A credit card statement, bank account statement, or RRSP, RRIF, RHOSP or T5 statement.
• A CNIB Card or a card from another registered charitable organization that provides services to persons with disabilities.
• A hospital card or record.
• A document showing campus residence, issued by the office or officials responsible for student residence at a post-secondary institution.
• A document showing residence at a long-term care home under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, issued by the Administrator for the home.
• A utility bill for hydro, water, gas, telephone or cable TV or a bill from a public utilities commission.
• A cheque stub, T4 statement or pay receipt issued by an employer.
• A transcript or report card from a post-secondary school.

2022 Important Election Dates

• Nomination and Registration Begins – May 2, 2022
  Candidates can file their nomination papers with the Clerk
• Election Information Session (for Candidates) - June 23, 2022 Join Bruce County Municipalities at a free information session on June 23, 2022 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Bruce County Administration Building (30 Park Street, Walkerton) or on Microsoft Teams. • Nomination Day – August 19, 2022
  On Nomination Day, nominations may only be filed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. If a person is present at the Clerk’s office on Nomination Day at 2:00 p.m. and has not yet filed the nomination, they may file the nomination as soon as possible after 2:00 p.m. A candidate that wishes to withdraw their nomination must notify the Clerk in writing before 2:00 p.m.
• Voting Period Begins - October 17, 2022
  Advanced Voting will open Monday October 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Voting will remain open until Election Day, October 24, 2022 at 8:00 p.m.
  Electors can vote using internet or telephone voting. If you require assistance, you can contact our Voter Help Desk, during regular business hours, by telephone at 519-392-6623 or by email to election@southbruce.ca.

• Election Day (last day to vote) - October 24, 2022
  Electors are encouraged to vote anytime during the voting period. Voting closes at 8:00 p.m. on Election day.
• Inaugural Council Meeting - November 15, 2022
  The new Council will be sworn in at an Inaugural Council Meeting to begin their four-year term.

Who can be a candidate?

• A resident of the municipality or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant; and
• A Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old; and
• Not legally prohibited from voting; and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
• You will need 25 signatures on your nomination form and must pay a fee of $100 ($200 for Mayor).

In municipal elections, candidates are not elected to represent a political party such as Federal or Provincial elections.

Each Candidate must file two (2) forms:

• Form 1 - Nomination Form 
• Form 2 - Endorsement of Nomination Form

How do I file my Nomination papers?

To file your nomination papers, please book an appointment with the Clerk. Appointments can be booked by calling the Municipal office at 519-392-6623.

To file Nomination papers, you must register with the Clerk's office by 2:00 p.m. on August 19, 2022.

Withdrawal or Change of office must be completed by 2:00 p.m. on August 19, 2022
